Background:

Oral health disparities are prevalent among tribal populations due to limited access to education and dental care. The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a unique opportunity to provide scalable, personalized health interventions. Aim : To assess the effectiveness of an AI-guided health intervention in improving oral hygiene practices among the tribal population in Vellore District.

Materials and Methods:

This interventional, community-based study recruited 200 tribal individuals aged 12 years and above from Vellore District. Baseline assessments included a structured questionnaire on oral hygiene practices and clinical scoring using the Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified (OHI-S). Statistical analyses involved paired t-tests and chi-square tests.

Results:

The mean OHI-S score significantly improved from 3.8 ± 0.5 at baseline to 1.6 ± 0.4 at 6 months (p< 0.001). There was a notable increase in twice-daily brushing and use of toothbrush and paste.

Conclusion:

AI-guided interventions significantly improved oral hygiene behaviours among tribal populations and represent a promising strategy for addressing oral health disparities in underserved regions.
