Abstract

The increasing geriatric population is associated with a higher prevalence of chronic systemic diseases that significantly impact oral health. Conditions such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis, and rheumatoid arthritis, along with polypharmacy, contribute to various oral manifestations including periodontal disease, xerostomia, dental caries, and tooth loss. The relationship between systemic and oral health is bidirectional, where each can influence the progression of the other. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach involving preventive care, early diagnosis, and collaboration between medical and dental professionals. Maintaining good oral health is essential for improving overall health and quality of life in elderly individuals.
