  The Editorial Process

Manuscript Formatting Guidelines

(Do not compress the files in any format)

1. First Page File: 

Prepare the covering letter, title page, acknowledgement, etc., in Microsoft word program. Detailed information revealing your identity should be here. 

2. Article file: The main text of the manuscript, beginning from Abstract till References (including tables) should be in this file.  Images should not be incorporated in the file. 

3. Images: Submit good quality color images.  Image formats (jpeg, tiff, gif, bmp, png) are acceptable; jpeg is most preferable. 

4. Legends: Legends for the figures/images should be included at the end of the article file.

The authors' form and copyright form has to be submitted to the editorial desk by post, in original with the signatures of all the authors within two weeks of online submission.

Manuscript preparation:

The manuscripts should be typed in A4 size paper, with margins of ‘1 inch’ from all the four sides. Times new roman with a font size of 14 for headings and 12 for the main body is advised. Texts should be in ‘Justification format’ with 1.5 spacing throughout. Pages should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page. The language should be English (U.K).

Title Page

The title page should carry

1. Type of manuscript

2. The title of the article

3. Running title not more than 50 characters;

4. Name of the authors (as it should appear in the journal), with his/her highest academic degree(s) and their institutional affiliation;

5. The name of the department(s)/institution(s) to which the credit should be given for the current work;

6. The full name, postal address, phone numbers, and e-mail address of the contributor responsible for correspondence about the manuscript;

7. The total number of pages, total number of photographs and word counts separately for abstract and for the text (excluding the references and abstract).

8. Source(s) of support in the form of grants, other resources; and funding.

 Abstract Page

The second page should carry the full title of the manuscript and an abstract (of no more than 120 words for case reports, brief reports and 250 words for original articles). 

The abstract should be structured (IMRAD format). Keywords should be mentioned.

Introduction

State the study’s purpose, its need and summarize the rationale for the study or observation.

Methods

Specify the details of ethical approval of the study.

Describe the selection of the study subjects with a view on sampling frame, study population etc. Identify the methods (if any used), apparatus/unit (give the manufacturer's name and address in parentheses), and procedures in sufficient detail. Give references to established methods; provide brief descriptions for methods that are not well known; describe new or substantially modified methods, assign reasons, and evaluate their limitations. Precise identification of drugs (if any used) in terms of dosage, rote of administration etc.

Reports of clinical trials should be based on the CONSORT 2010 statement.

Authors submitting review manuscripts should include a detailed section describing the methods used for locating, selecting, extracting, and synthesizing data preferably as a flow chart. 

Statistics

Quantify the findings wherever possible.

P-value and confidence intervals (Wherever possible) should be mentioned.

Specify the statistical methods used to analyze them with their inference values. Define statistical terms, abbreviations, and most symbols. 

Results

Results should be presented in logical sequence. 

Emphasize or summarize only important observations from the tables rather than repeating the entire text of it.

Discussion

Emphasize the relevant aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. Include in the Discussion section the implications of the findings and their limitations, including implications for future research. Relate the observations to other relevant studies. Quote other studies by author name, followed by year of study and the place(state/territory/country) where study was done. Recommendations, when appropriate, may be included.

Acknowledgments

1. Contributions that need to be acknowledged (but do not justify authorship)

2. Acknowledgments of technical help, financial and material support, which should specify the nature of the support. 

References:

Vancouver style of referencing to be followed. Citations should be placed in superscript in the body of the text.
