Aim: This study aimed to retrospectively assess the periodontal status of patients diagnosed with dental fluorosis.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in a university dental hospital setting. Records from 86,000 patients were screened, of which 424 case sheets fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected for analysis. Data were retrieved from the institutional record management system and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 23.0.

Results: Among patients with dental fluorosis, generalized chronic gingivitis was the most prevalent condition (63.6%), followed by localized chronic gingivitis (12.9%), generalized chronic gingivitis with localized chronic periodontitis (12.9%), generalized chronic periodontitis (5.6%), localized chronic periodontitis (4%), and combined localized gingivitis and periodontitis (0.7%). Generalized chronic gingivitis was more frequently observed in individuals with mild fluorosis, males, and patients aged 18-30 years.

Conclusion: Generalized chronic gingivitis was the most common periodontal finding among patients with dental fluorosis, particularly in young adults and males. These findings highlight the epidemiological relevance of assessing periodontal health in fluorosis-affected individuals and emphasize the need for patient education regarding the potential effects of fluorosis on periodontal tissues.
