Abstract
Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) represents a major source of cancer morbidity worldwide, with an elevated incidence of resistance to treatment and recurrence. A major obstacle to managing OSCC effectively is chemoresistance, which is frequently linked to the existence and functioning of Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs). Because of their capacity for self-renewal, differentiation, and survival, these specialized cells are resistant to traditional treatments. This narrative review examines the molecular mechanisms, including as PI3K/AKT, Wnt, and Notch signaling, that underlie CSC-mediated chemoresistance in OSCC. Emerging strategies targeting CSCs and overcoming chemoresistance are also discussed, offering insights into future therapeutic approaches.
